Gapminder is a website that provides graphical representations of the trends of hundreds of worldwide indicators.

All the available indicators can be compared to get a pretty visualization and you can even download raw data in Excel.

Gapminder is a non-profit venture – a modern “museum” on the Internet – promoting sustainable global development and achievement of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.

Reference :: The 2009 Legatum Prosperity Index

The Legatum Prosperity Index is the world’s only global assessment of wealth and wellbeing; unlike other studies that rank countries by actual levels of wealth, life satisfaction or development, the Prosperity Index produces rankings based upon the very foundations of prosperity, those factors that help drive economic growth and produce happy citizens over the long term.

Countries profiles are available at the following URL: http://www.prosperity.com/countries.aspx

and you can compare several countries at the prospericope: http://www.prosperity.com/prosperiscope.aspx

The following document is the full report from 2009:

Economics :: RSA Animate – Crises of Capitalism

In this RSA Animate, radical social theorist David Harvey asks if it is time to look beyond capitalism towards a new social order that would allow us to live within a system that really could be responsible, just, and humane?

This is based on a lecture at the RSA (www.theRSA.org).

PS: I was sure to have blogged about this one months ago. I hope that it will help some people to discover or re-discover it!
